The Karrakatta Club is a women's club in Perth, Western Australia . Established in 1894, it was the first women's club in Australia.

The Karrakatta Club was founded in 1894 by members of the St George Reading Circle. The St George Reading Circle was formed around 1887 for the purpose of exchanging and discussing reading material, and debating current affairs. Following a visit from an American woman named Dr Emily Ryder, the Circle decided to form a new club modelled on the Education Clubs that were popular in America. Named for the Karrakatta location of its building, it was formed with the intention of providing women with the opportunity to be active and vocal in public affairs.

For many years the Karrakatta Club succeeding in its intention of being active in public affairs. For example it was active in pushing for women's suffrage in the 1890s, and it was responsible for the formation of an RSPCA in Western Australia. Today it is perceived as having become a social club , and is widely accused of irrelevance.

Members of the Karrakatta Club have included:

Lovely flowers & interesting to note how various religions look after the departed 's resting places

It would appear that being a Catholic has its advantages if one considers the flowers & maintainence.

I must admit , as a non practising Anglican I was a bit ashamed of the shabby "Anglican area"

It will be interesting to see how our multiculturalistic Muslim area will turn out , hopefully power will be provided @ the tombstones to power the fluorescent lights that will no doubt adorn the monuments. Lovely.

All in all a must visit before it's too late!

It is a very well kept establishment with chapels, burial grounds.

Fresh off riding a treble on Wednesday, Sportsbet.com.au punters will be pinning their faith in Aaron Mitchell when he partners the well fancied Seannie in the Karrakatta Plate (1200m) this Saturday at Ascot.

The filly looks a rising star and has been outstanding in both runs this time in. Blew them away fresh in the Supremacy before the wide gate/negative rider beat her in the Perth Stakes. She draws much better here and looks the clear horse to beat. She has been a slight early drifter though, out to $2.80 from $2.70.

Next best in betting is the horse that Seannie in the Perth Stakes, Kiss Bang Love, who was ridden a treat by Pike that day. He remains on and despite the wide draw is rock solid at $7.

The only early firmer has been Soundcheck, who opened $21 and is sitting at $20.
